Introduction
There would be no fun being out in the rain on a day like this, so I’ve gone back into my photo archives to find 12 pictures from walks I completed in the first few months after retiring in 2016.
I’ve numbered them 1 to 12, so please add a comment at the bottom of this blog post (not on Facebook, Twitter or email) if you know what or where any of them are taken – only name 1 each please to give others a chance. Then also give the number of your favourite!
Over the weekend, I’ll add a comment with the answers and the overall favourite.
2016
And finally…..
Thursday wouldn’t be Thursday without a song to finish. This is from 2020 and chosen as appropriate to today’s weather! …..and I like the album!
Easy one first. Picture 5 – Three Shires Head.
Super photos Graham. Thank you.
Correct. Although, if you look closely at the OS Map, it’s actually called Three Shire Heads!
Number 10 is Lud’s Church.
Are the Deer in picture 4 wild ones? I’d be interested to know where you saw them. We saw a large herd (is that the name?) of them near Bosley a couple of weeks ago. Lovely photo’s.
Lud’s Church is correct. And the deer are indeed near Bosley, on the path up to Sutton Radio mast. The point will be saved for someone who names the breed of deer.
Great idea to remind us of our beautiful countryside, just when I thought you’d been out in this downpour. Only recognised 2 – already guessed!
And there I was thinking that Picture 8 was just too easy! Well, prepare to be surprised!
Okay, I know it’s my second go, but as no-one else has got it, its the Millennium Bridge, at the Torrs
OK, I’ll forgive you. It is, of course the wonderful Millenium Walkway in New Mills. The whole area below the town of New Mills at the confluence of the Rivers Sett and Goyt is spectacular. I’m amazed this wasn’t the first location to be named!
All lovely photos Graham, I particularly like Number 5 though I don’t know where it is. Number 12 looks like the view over the Helsby/Frodsham marshes towards the Mersey. Lovely memories of Trust events where we had a similar view.
Yes, that’s number 12 correct. It could almost be taken from an early Weaver Vale Away Day at Forest Hills Hotel!
Is number 9 The Peak District around Dovedale and the Manifold Valley?
Yes Andrew. It is a spot in Dovedale called Gipsy Bank, with Biggin Dale beyond. It’s not far from the village of Alstonefield. I remember the climb up the hill from that bridge. A great spot for a much needed rest when you got to the top!
6)I’ll try nr beacom houses above ethrow, there are pylons there
Easily the best answer yet. Some cattle and some pylons on the hills to the north of Etherow is spot on!
Number 5 is a great spot and my favourite
I think number 7 is Millers dale coming up to Creessbrook
Brilliant Chris, absolutely right!
No. 2 – Snipe House near Lamaload Reservoir?
Yes Martin, I love that sign!
Well done Graham.Good to imagine being in those places at this time
I don’t know where any of them are but my favourite picture is number 5.

And the favourite is number 5, Three Shire Heads, so I’ve added another photo, number 13 as perhaps this is what attracts everyone to this spot!
