Introduction
Incredibly, it’s been 8 months since my first Picture Competition was initiated by a very wet October Thursday.
Last Friday, after a day out golfing, I was in The Lone Star restaurant in Buxton when the NHS Covid-19 app advised that I must self isolate for 8 days following an exposure to an infected person on the previous Tuesday. The Tuesday had been Cal’s birthday, and the only contacts I could have had were at a meal out at The Crown, Hawk Green. However, we sat outside at The Crown, which we’re told is relatively safe, and tables were socially distanced. Confusing…. yes! However, I’ve been self isolating since getting home from Buxton, have tested negative for Covid 19, and will complete the isolation tomorrow, Friday at 2359.
It’s been a long week, but the 6 day cricket World Test Championship Final, the US Open Golf and the Euros have helped me to retain my sanity.
Today’s walk has had to be postponed, so I’ll spend the day preparing some new walks to see me through the next few weeks. These are the maps that cover pretty much everywhere within an hour of Cheadle Hulme!
But first, here’s my second picture quiz, taken from walks completed between November 2016 and June 2017.
Rules
I’ve numbered them 1 to 12, so if you know a location write the number and place as a comment at the bottom of this blog post (not on Facebook, Twitter or email) if you know what or where any of them are taken.
Only name 1 each please, to give others a chance. If you have a particular favourite, note which one it is.
Any other comments about the locations are welcome.
Over the weekend, I’ll add a comment with the answers.
2016-17
And Finally…..
Thursday wouldn’t be Thursday without a song to finish. A Self Isolation special!
I think picture 6 is in Marple Bridge on the woodland walk between the village and Garden House.
Sorry Jord, it isn’t there, but it is somewhere that I’ve walked with you…..
Pic 7: Rushup Edge from Mam Tor
Yes, love that view. I nearly used the view the other way, to Castleton and Hope Quarry, as everyone would know it from the ident to Channel 4 programmes where it appears.

No 12 Gawsworth Church
I don’t have a clue but what stunning photos!
Aah, thanks – you don’t get out much then!
No! But think I need to change that after looking at these beautiful photos
Pic 5 : Is the Goyt Cliff viaduct in the foreground with the weir spanning the river upstream ?The viaduct is a fantastic example of Victorian engineering, built in 1865 and substantially renovated in 2014/15.
Yes, though I had no idea that was the name of the viaduct. For others it is between Roman Lakes, and the Roman Bridge, near Marple.
Great photos Graham. Have fond memories of listening to Roy Orbison as a kid, don’t know if it’s still there but I watched a great documentary about him on the I Player. Enjoy your walking return 👌
Thanks Alan. I thought you may have got No. 9!
Yes, that’s right, Brian.
