Introduction
A beautiful summer’s day, with a little floaty white cloud. This is quite a local, short walk in farming country, between Wilmslow and Knutsford.
This walk is just 5.6 miles long, generally flat, and took 2 hour 30minutes plus a 15 minute lunch break.
The journey is about 25 minutes each way by car from Cheadle Hulme.
It’s not great for dog walkers, lots of farmland, and lots of road sections too.
I walked in an anti-clockwise direction.
The walk is on OS Explorer Map 268.
I parked on the road, outside the now sadly closed Frozen Mop pub., postcode WA16 7AL. What 3 Words /// someone.purple.surpassed
Frozen Mop To Wilmslow Golf Club
I set off up Faulkner’s Lane. This carved horse’s head caught my eye.
I took the road to the right at the first junction.
If you’re not sure about sharing fields with cows, don’t take the right, just go ahead to Ancoats Road.
I left the road at Pedley House Farm, And just got through the field before the inquisitive cows noticed me and followed my lead.
A short way further on, thankfully this big fella and his harem, and their offspring, were on the other side of a fence from me.
Soon, I was back on the road, but it’s a pretty lane here.
The lush fairways of Wilmslow Golf Club run alongside Warford Lane.
Great Warford
The garden at Springfield is beautiful, including a male peacock.
I stopped for lunch in the small copse here, before making my way to the path that crosses a small stream. It was very overgrown with nettles, brambles and himalayan balsam.
Looking back, it was a lovely rural scene, the path through now invisible!
Noah’s Ark Lane To The Frozen Mop
The whole of the route is dotted with modern mansions overlooking the farmland, like this one.
And then there was this one, with the red Rolls Royce strategically parked in front of the house.
At Paddockhill, I found I was on the way to The Plough and Flail – not been in there for a few years now!
Around the corner is this pretty thatched cottage.
Beyond Knutsford Road a track leads to a stile and down a field towards Swim Brook.
Beyond the trees is the pool in my featured header picture.
Back at Faulkner’s Lane it’s about 100 metres left to the car, though my 0.6 mile extension to the route heads right and down a lane to cross Mobberley Brook at Coppock House.
Heading round the house, the route then takes in another couple of fields holding cattle, so I’d say this extension to the walk is not really worth taking in.
This is another interesting, easy lowland walk in this part of the Cheshire plain.
And Finally….
I’ve been listening to the US country star Carly Pearce’s new album, Hummingbird, this week.
Here’s a sample – a simple tale of revenge – it’s Truck On Fire.
Another wonderful Cheshire stroll on a beautiful day for photos.
Thanks Roger!
